Multivariate Analysis is Sufficient for Lesion-Behaviour Mapping

نویسندگان

چکیده

Lesion-behaviour mapping aims at predicting individual behavioural deficits, given a certain pattern of brain lesions. It also brings fundamental insights on organization, as lesions can be understood interventions normal function. We focus here the case stroke. The most standard approach to lesion-behaviour is mass-univariate analysis, but it inaccurate due correlations between different regions induced by vascularisation. Recently, has been claimed that multivariate methods are subject lesion-anatomical bias, and move towards causal necessary eliminate bias. In this paper, we reframe problem using classical inference tools. show that, in absence additional clinical data if only one region an effect scores, suitable sufficient address This commonly encountered situation when working with public datasets, which very often lack general health data. support our claim set simulated experiments publicly available lesion imaging dataset, adequate models provide state-of-the art results.

Is standard multivariate analysis sufficient in clinical and epidemiological studies?

Clinical tests and epidemiological studies often produce large amounts of data, being multivariate in nature. The respective analysis is, in most cases, of importance comparable to the clinical and sampling tasks. Simple, easily interpretable techniques from chemometrics provide most of the ingredients to carry out this analysis. We have selected available data from different sources pertaining...

Predator confusion is sufficient to evolve swarming behaviour

Swarming behaviours in animals have been extensively studied owing to their implications for the evolution of cooperation, social cognition and predator– prey dynamics. An important goal of these studies is discerning which evolutionary pressures favour the formation of swarms. One hypothesis is that swarms arise because the presence of multiple moving prey in swarms causes confusion for attack...

Syndesmotic Malreduction after Ankle ORIF; Is Radiography Sufficient?

Background: Ankle fractures, especially those resulting from external rotation mechanisms are associated with injury to the distal tibiofibular syndesmosis. Some authors have recommended performing CT scanning after open ankle surgery to evaluate the reduction of syndesmosis. In this current study, we aimed to investigate the sensitivity of plain radiography in diagnosing syndesmosis malreduc...
